Hagie Manufacturing Company Enhances All-Wheel Steer
Clarion, Iowa, January 2010 – Hagie Manufacturing Company improves their All-Wheel Steer option with
Progressive AWS. The All-Wheel Steering (AWS) option was originally made available on
STS10 and
STS12 models in January 2009 and the
STS14 and
STS16 models at the start of the 2010 model year has been enhanced to provide users a wider operating range.
Hagie Manufacturing Company has always listened to their customers to produce self-propelled sprayers with the features and options that are asked for. The Hagie
Progressive AWS is that kind of a request. To increase the Hagie STS’s versatility, the Hagie AWS reduces the machine turning radius nearly in half, making the detasseler and nitrogen applicator toolbar more efficient. In addition, the AWS also reduces crop damage on end rows by leaving only one set of wheel tracks when turning. Hagie Manufacturing Company studied other four wheel steering systems to determine what did and did not work. Jim Williams, Product Marketing Engineering at Hagie Manufacturing Company stated, "Other sprayer companies have offered a four wheel steering system, but they have been expensive and difficult to keep calibrated. Our system is robust and utilizes the machines existing control system, reducing the cost of the option." The original system design kept the operator and machine safety its top priority. In 2010, the control system on the STS machines was improved giving it more processor power to expand the capabilities of the AWS system while maintaining safety. The angle the rear wheels are allowed to turn varies by the speed the machine is traveling. Following contours in the field or taking wide sweeping turns on end rows can now be accomplished at higher speeds with the rear wheels following the same wheel tracks as the front. The result is less crop damage and less soil disturbance. The AWS option has been very popular. Kevin Marshall, Sales/Product Manager at Hagie Manufacturing, expects the improvements will, "increase the demand for the option."
